What is The Jewellers Peg?The Jewellers Peg is part of Vanessa Miller Jewellery and a wonderful opportunity to offer you experiences. The tutors are Vanessa Miller and Tom Asquith. Experiences are an opportunity to learn how to create jewellery in a calm and intimate environment with one or both tutors.
-
Will I/we make our own jewellery? What will I/we be doing?Yes! After an initial introduction to the studio (The Jewellers Peg) You will be guided throughout the entire process from start to finish and will hand make your own item of jewellery. The tutor(s) will demonstrate each step before you do each task and will be on hand at all times to assist you.
-
What if I/we run out of time? Will I/we leave with a finished piece of Jewellery? The time allocated for each experience is usually enough time to complete the project, however sometimes it may go over by a few minutes. Whatever happens please rest assured that you will always leave with a beautiful, finished piece of jewellery you have made from scratch.
-
Can I bring my own metal? No we supply the metal for you to use to make your jewellery. We are frequently asked if participants can bring their own old or sentimental jewellery to melt down to use during the class. Unfortunately this isn't something we can offer during the time allocated and there is a lot more involved than simply melting down the metal.
-
I have an old item of jewellery can I use the metals or gemstones from it during our class?A frequently asked question and I understand the lovely idea of this, however this isnt something we can offer our participants. There is a lot of work and risk involved in the process of melting down and forming your metal and in the removal of your stones therefore we do not offer this the participants.
-
Is there lift access ?No sorry we do not have lift access. The workshop is located on the first floor accessible via a spiral staircase.
-
What should I wear to the classes? You will be in a workshop environment with lots of tools and equipment. You will be provided with an apron and safety glasses (you are very welcome to bring your own), it is recommended you wear clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty. You must wear flat closed toe sturdy footwear such as trainers, bring your spectacles if you require to wear them normally and tie long hair securely back. Your class will be cancelled without refund if you attend without these basic safety measures. Please be aware you will be working with tools and although rare cuts can occur.
-
Health and SafetyClasses are for adults over the age of 17 only. The classes will require some standing for certain activities and physical work. Please be aware all classes we offer are a practical activity and although rare sometimes minor injuries such as cuts can occur. COVID-19 SAFE- Please provide your own face mask. Face masks are no longer mandatory and you are welcome to wear one throughout your class. There is handwashing and alcohol hand gel available within the workshop. The workshop is a small space and therefore restricted to a maximum of 4: 2 tutors and 2 students at any one time. It is recommended you wear an apron as workshops can be a dirty environment, you may bring your own or wear the aprons we supply which are laundered after each workshop. If you wear glasses please remember to bring them with you. Long hair must be tied back securely. Low heeled, firm shoes must be worn such as trainers - flip flops, sandals, open shoes and soft cloth shoes cannot be worn in the workshop and will mean your class cannot go ahead if you do not have alternative footwear. Sanitised and reusable eye protection and disposable ear protection where necessary will be provided.

How does the payment for the Wedding Ring Workshop work? You can make your initial enquiry here We can offer you silver and gold. Your rings can be made directly in metal or carved in wax and cast. Due to complexities of the process, time restrictions, the equipment we use (high risk) and insurance we cannot use your own jewellery/metals/gemstones to make your wedding rings from. If you wish to have your wedding rings in gold we can offer you a very rough estimate of costs at initial enquiry - very helpful if you know your ring sizes. The fee you pay on the website is to secure your chosen date, our time to calculate your metal costs and our teaching time (you will be taught and supported by two practicing jewellers Vanessa and Tom), the cost of your metal is on top of this fee and you will be billed separately for your gold metal. You will be invited to the workshop to have your ring sizes measured. Then your gold metals can be accurately calculated and I will email you with an invoice for the cost of the metal - due to the fluctuating price of metal this will need to be paid for within 7 days (unless I have stipulated a different timeframe within the email) after this period if there has been no payment the metal costs will need to be recalculated and a new bill will be issued or your class will be cancelled.
-
